BELOW- how money travels after a song is released (taken from the website recordedmusic.co.nz).
We work with a number of artists - many of whom are starting out. It is important to know how your work can pay off. Once you have completed your involvement in music that is due for release, there are two easy things you can do to ensure you don't lose any money owing to you.
If you are are writer, and have written songs that are performed or broadcast, you are entitled to the royalties from that broadcast. So DO register your writing with APRA to ensure you get paid. They can talk you through this process.
If you are a performer or vocalist and have performed or sung songs that are performed or broadcast, DO register with NZ Recorded Music, as they will ensure that you receive any royalties owing to you for that work.
